Kentucky State Rep. Pamela Stevenson had words for her Republican colleagues over a bill that would ban gender-affirming care for youths.

I know this probably isn't the right place to ask, but the question has been in the back of my head for a while, can somebody explain to me how being transgender isn't a mental illness without calling me a bunch of random words? I don't have anything against transgender people and I think they have a right to live how they want, I just don't understand, and I'm trying to.

I understand gender roles being social constructs, but this seems like they're having a disagreement with their literal anatomy that's the part that confuses me. It's literally written into your DNA, bone structures, and muscles.

So I'm throwing myself on the mercy of Reddit to explain this to me.
