I have never ever seen a case where the court found some sort of duty to help the police search.

I guess it could be charged as obstruction given that OP hid them specifically after hearing the police arrive, but other than this Reddit post, I’d be near impossible to get evidence of he did that.

Just having a laptop hidden and not presenting it in response to a warrant....I know of no law that requires him to tell police where stuff is hidden. I would in fact think the 5th Amendment would mean you wouldn’t have to tell the police anything.

I also don’t think it’s that shady that OP doesn’t want his stuff confiscated. That stuff could be gone for months, years, or easily permanently gone.
