The thing is that him and his dad were very close, the amount of respect Khabib had for his father was incredible. His dad was also his coach so the loss of him affected him heavily. Khabib promised his mother this would be his last fight, he fought Justin Gaethje who is a very skilled fighter and dominated the fight. He finished off an undefeated 29-0 career only having one round scored against him across that whole career.

When he broke down crying after the fight, Gaetje came over and told him "you made your father proud." Then Khabib gave a beautiful little speech about spending more time with your family and not taking anything for granted. Almost certainly the best lightweight fighter of all time, he retires as the pound for pound #1 in the world. Brilliant fighter, brilliant and respectful human being. His speech had me crying for the first time in years.
