Kicking out your kids at 18 is terrible.

I didn't get kicked out at 18. But my father told me he didn't believe in parents paying for their kids' college. His parents hadn't paid for his college, so I was on my own as far as he was concerned. My mom ended up getting a low wage job and sent me a few bucks from time to time. But I managed just fine on my own. I got scholarships, took out some loans, and worked my butt off. I graduated from the top university in my state with a Bachelors and Masters in Electrical Engineering. I picked up an MBA a couple years later. Now, years later, I'm risk managing one of the largest stock portfolios in the world. If that's parental abuse I guess I never realized it. I just knew I needed to figure things out on my own.
