I work as a substitute teacher while I decide if I like it enough to pursue certification. I have long COVID and was only just cleared to return to work to weeks ago. I’m far from recovered, but baby steps. I have 50/50 custody of my daughters, which means they are only with me half of the time. I do not receive child support. I spend a bit of time in the exJW subreddit, not that it’s any of your business, because I only recently realized I was brought up in a doomsday cult and I find it tremendously comforting there. Unless you’ve been a JW, I don’t expect you to understand. Everything about that religion is isolating, from the vernacular to the dress code to the translation of the Bible they use. Nearly thirty years after leaving, I still carry many of the cultural markers of a JW and it’s taken spending time around other former JWs and Fundies to understand why. I’ll say this much: for all of my upbringing’s faults, I wouldn’t call someone I don’t know in a bad parent, and I recognize rhetorical questions when I see them.
