People used to actually have to talk to figure out what other people were like. Maybe get details about someone from someone that knows them. Now they know they hate that person without ever saying a word to them because they googled them and checked out their Facebook page. They could have a lot of common ground...but they'll never know now.

This is the biggest crock of shit I have seen in a while. Before the internet & social media I wouldn't even be able to tell you what a crock of shit this is. Only thing I would know about you is what I saw on TV and read in the newspaper, which is controlled by the "fake news" with an agenda.

If you want to know what the problem is, it's that I get to see what you think behind closed doors. When we "actually" talked to each other, you'd put on a face when we talked, go home, and say some foul shit. Now people say foul shit from home. Now I know that Katja from high school is a racist. But would I have known that by talking to her? No. Now I know that most vocal trump supporters say some really dumb shit when it comes to ideology. Would I have known that in person? No and I know that because i've worked with those who share these views but I don't want to be the asshole who always brings up politics at work.

So no the problem is not social media. The problem is these people have always fucking sucked (subjective, I guess) and you just didn't know how much until now.
