According to one youtube video that conveniently glosses over a *300 year* blank spot. It also seems like there's plenty of precedence for non-scots being called rednecks during that timeframe. I don't expect r/livestreamfails to attract any actual authority on the matter any time soon, and in the mean time I think it's fair to say that regardless of correct/incorrect, what Alec is saying here is less him dishing out arcane vetted historical fact and more him regurgitating a dubious rationalization about his culture (is it coincidental that the WV 'rednecks' were literally begging FOR government intervention, the opposite of his understanding?)
