I knew I was pregnant, and I knew I had to have an abortion

Not OP but I can maybe help, I work in an OB GYN clinic. Up to about 12 weeks, you can take a series of pills that force your body to expel anything in your uterus. Before this point it's not a baby as such, it's just a cluster of cells and only a few centimetres in size. After about 12 weeks you need to have a surgical procedure, where a doctor can remove the products of conception under general anaesthetic. This can be done up to 20-24 weeks, depending on your states laws. After around 24 weeks, the foetus is considered viable, as in, it could survive outside the womb ny itself and you can no longer have an abortion as doctors believe that at this point it can feel pain and is a conscious being.

Side effects from a 'pill' or medical abortion can be as little as cramping and bleeding, or life threating as you can lose a lot of blood. Most people also experience some hormonal imbalance and can have emotional reactions due to that as well. If you or anyone you know need help, the planned parenthood website is fantastic for information.
