Knowing that I'll never be independent or find a steady job is killing me.

So why did you comment? To insult a struggling person? Wow, do you not understand what SEVERE mental illness is? She is obviously in a low point in her life and calling someone "pathetic" is not going to help at all and it just shows what kind of mindset you have. Nobody with a secure and stable mind would CHOOSE to live with their parents their entire life.

OP, i'm in the exact same situation as you, except i'm younger. Never been away from my parents except to go to the hospital, jealous of my peers, don't know how to act normal, psychotic episodes etc. I rarely even leave home. Are you seeing a therapist? If not, you should start ASAP. If you have a GP, schedule an appointment. Medication can help greatly with all kinds of symptoms. 29 is definitely young enough to completely change your life. You have to want it bad enough though. I'm still mustering up the strength to make a huge change, but I know I will eventually.

Look into inpatient programs, support groups in your city, volunteer jobs at environments you enjoy etc. Something can help you, but you have to get out into the world. Start small if need be.

I believe in you
