Some very general over views. - one cannot assume Asian beauty ideals =looking western. If you were going to take on that perspective then the closest thing to the truth would be Asian beauty ideals overlap with western beauty ideals. If you are western it does not mean you will become instantly attractive to Asians. - HOWEBER Western ideals do exist in asian ideals due to history, media and other social factors that influence these ideals. Colonisation and US being a key economy plays factors onto what is the "norm" or beautiful. - Beauty ideals are very similar and different worldwide. There are things like "golden ratio" and face symmetry that naturally draw people in. E.g. explains why some people are naturally more attractive. - American or western beauty ideals are different actually. Example: Tanning (western) is ideal as opposed to paler skin (Asian). - simplified format for comparison. Take makeup as an example, Western: Mature very sultry look. Eastern/SE Asian: youthful innocent look. The easiest way to see this is comparing makeup. Western makeup prefers stronger mature looks and Asian makeup prefers natural young innocent looks. - Plastic surgery goals do not equal to "please make me look white ". However ideals like a higher nose bridge - double lids are found naturally more within Caucasians. Though the reasons as to why these are ideals do not mean it's because they like looking white. Eyelids for example, for both naturally monolid and double lid Asians exist, a double lid naturally gives your eyes a more awake and wide eyed look (idea of youth).

TLDR: Complicated mix of history, socio-economic factors- stronger presence of western media and history. Both west and east ideals overlap but they eventually go off in different tangents/ different reasons to why it's considered attractive.
