It's really not the state of Overwatch but actually shows the influence of Activision on Blizzard and the current state of Blizzard.

The game made 400M+ revenue (Just digital, doesn't even include the money they made from selling OWL passes and all the hundreds of diff merchandise items they sell and heavily promote) in 2018, and yet they barely acknowledge, support and care about the Tier 2 (Contenders) & 3 scenes of their own game. After they killed all of the third party events for tier 2 & tier 3 by making their own official Tier 2 and Tier 3 events which they have barely given a flying fuck about. I mean, it makes bad financial sense to not care about and invest in the tier 2 & 3 scenes as that's where OWL players are scouted from. If you kill them by pure negligence then where the fuck will new players come from for OWL? Just shows that the people in charge at Blizzard right now are completely blinded by maximizing short term profit and are actively hurting the long term growth and stability of the company. There are some small signs of potential change (They announced a bunch of positive changes for Contenders 2019) in the coming future but I highly doubt it.
