Labor Day is a good time for the truth on unions: The narrative that support for unions is dying is just plain wrong. Instead, rarely making the headlines or exposed by the traditional media is a hidden, ugly war against unions, orchestrated by a sophisticated, multibillion-dollar industry.

As a nurse who has worked in both union and non-union environments, I can attest to the fact that there is no comparison...Non-union working conditions are stressful beyond measure, and ultimately much less safe for patients...The risk of being fired for no reason is ever prevalent, even here in CA, because we are a so-called "right to work" state...This fosters an environment of fear, secrecy and intimidation, with the power coming from the top down, instead of from the collective power of workers in the more democratic environment of union conditions...The nurse to patient ratio can be set by management to whatever they see most profitable and productive, which is actually redundant, because productivity is nothing more than the measure of a nurse like by a bean counter who should be measuring the value of widgets instead ...This amounts to incessant stress for nurses...Of course unions are never perfect, as nothing in life ever is, but they are incomparably superior to the alternative in terms of safety and worker satisfaction...
