The lack of healers and tanks is seriously limiting composition variety

This is nitpicking but obviously it's comparable. One has 23 heroes. The other has 112.

That is a comparison.

I understand what you're saying but you don't have to pretend like the two are somehow categorically different. Dota has ten unique heroes in every game, Overwatch can have duplicates (for now), Offense and Defense vs Radiant and Dire, Dota only has the one map vs Overwatch's 14 or whatever.

I'm not going to do the math to figure out how many permutations there are for each because, very simply, I don't care that much, but I think they are very clearly comparable.

I am not as aggrieved by the apparently slowish development cycle for Overwatch as it's not the game that I spend the most time with, so I understand why other people would feel differently and I don't know enough about fledgling games like this or FPSes in general to have a good sense of how difficult it is to balance them.You'd expect the speed to drop over time though so it's not terribly surprising that people would expect things to be a bit quicker right now.
