Ladies, has anyone tried to make you feel guilty for being able to afford nice things? What was your story and how did you respond to/feel about it?

I wore my Chanel handbag one day to work because I was meeting friends straight afterwards. I kept it under my desk in my office out of the way most of the day. I got it out at lunchtime because I needed some cash out of it.

That afternoon I got an anonymous hate email from some nasty vile coworker basically calling me some kind of whore because I had this bag- the things they wrote were truly disgusting. What she didn’t know was that I knew exactly who wrote it even though I couldn’t prove it and neither could IT. The new HR representative was the only person who saw the bag during the day, she had no idea I’d hidden it all day when she popped in to see me for something at lunchtime. Denise from HR wasn’t kept on after her 3 months probation was over due to this and she was given a very icy reception from me whenever she needed to talk to me during that time- making it impossible to do her job well as I was Head of Sales and had the majority of the employees under my area. I hope she learned her lesson. Total cow.
