Late to the game a little here, but my husband is a naval officer. He’s pretty put together all the time (pressed shirts with jeans, polished loafers, etc), but he’s just my regular husband then. He sits on the couch and watches teevee with me and cooks dinner and all the things I love about him.

When he puts on the uniform, it’s like his personality gets all starched up, too. He won’t hold my hand and his language gets extra tight. (He was putting his dress blues on while I was still in my pajamas this morning and I was teasing him about putting on his costume.) For me, it’s a little like the difference between Superman and Clark Kent - they’re the same guy, but the costume change intensifies the behavior.

There’s all this minutiae involved in getting dressed his way (he uses a special ruler tool to make sure the medals are the right distance from the lapels) and if he uses that much attention to detail in getting dressed, it suggests to me that he’s going to pay that much detail to getting other things right, too.

Only eight hours until he’s back....
