Lake Sorvagsvatn, located in the Faroe Islands between Norway and Iceland. It is 30 meters above the Ocean.

Larger photo, and the photographers comments:

Hi everyone. I am actually the photographer of this image. A few friends of mine have told me that there were a few Reddit postings about it, so I thought I'd clarify a few things:

The poster is correct. This was shot at Lake Sorvagsvatn, Faroe Islands. Those of you referring to Prometheus, that is Dettifoss of Iceland. Different country entirely. It's not as obvious, but I took a photo of it here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/twooh/9021073812/

I didn't mean for it to be an optical illusion, or to burst anyones bubble after understanding the geography of the place. I shot it with my 24mm 1.4L, in order to capture the composition I felt would look best. While it appears trippy in the photo, it's way trippier in person. If you look at all those white dots on the cliff, those were actually Black-legged Kittiwake; so try wrapping your head around the scale.

The image was processed through Lightroom. I avoided any modifications other than lifting up the blacks, and bringing down the whites in the RAW file. Color was shifted slightly, but is otherwise exactly how I remembered it. I didn't really need to do anything else. Also, the fact that it was overcast, and raining a lot helped. So no Photoshop was used at all.

This place was definitely special in that it wasn't crowded with tourists, and the location wasn't as easy as finding a map, or following signs (because there weren't any). Google maps helped a lot in figuring this out, and if you're going to visit the Faroe Islands, I recommend doing a lot of studying of the geography. Hope this helps.
