With the same girl from 18-32. Divorced a couple years now. It was horrible for both of us, and we needed it to end, but still... I'm dating again, a mix of long and short term, and I think about this a lot.

I think a huge change is that we have no longer have shared social circle or foundation in our relationships. It's so easy to swipe/ghost/abandon if things are not working out. Your friends and parents and community won't give you shit. There is no penalty for extreme hedonistic behavior. You just move on.

Relationships are all about work, and there is no getting that decade of development back. You can't fast track it. Sometimes I do wish we worked on our marriage, no matter how toxic it ended up.

I'm happy to work on new relationships now, and I do, but it's a bummer I'll be in my 50s by the time another decade rolls around.
