Lampard Retires

Rather than rehash everything that has been said here, I'll share a brief story about Frank that I only know of through a mutual friend, because it was never publicized because that's who Frank is.

2012/2013 was obviously a disappointing season filled with a lot of disgruntled supporters over Rafa, the failure to build upon European success, etc. The shining light was Frank's chase of Bobby Tambling's goal scoring record for the club, which stood at 202.

Bobby was not well at this time. He had serious health issues that make it all the more amazing he's still with us today. And as a player who came a few decades before all of the money poured into the game, he and his family live a simple life but not one befitting one of Chelsea's best ever players.

As Frank got closer to the record, obviously all of the papers and journos wanted interviews with him to talk about the record. And Frank refused to do any of them unless those stories not only included Bobby, but made sure to benefit him as well. Unless it was the pair of them - no story. No exceptions.

Now, the last thing I want anyone to do is think of Bobby as a charity case, because that's absolutely not true. But there's a few reasons that he's now up and walking, flying out with us on tour, in the hospitality suites every week, and generally enjoying his time around the club again and getting proper recognition for his service - and a big reason for that comes down to the selflessness of Frank.
