Landlords of NYC, what can I expect from eviction proceedings in court?

Yea. Unfortunately the private house aspect did not make it any easier. I understand the nyc laws favor the tenants, but in situations like this it’s really unfair. We’re talking two people in their 70s renting one small studio to help with the bills. This isn’t some management company or slum lord. I honestly feel a separate set of laws should be applied for small time landlords.

As far as background checks, my parents looked for personal recommendations for the current bitch, some close friends vouched for her as they knew her professionally but you see how that worked out. Her former friends even tried talking to her and asking her to leave once the trouble started and she just blew them all off. She even filed fraudulent complaints with housing that amounted to nothing but wasting time and stressing two seniors. Unfortunately this is far from the worst they have dealt with and not the first time they have had to go to court to evict. In the past they would ask for credit score, proof of job etc and that worked out maybe half the time. I’m pretty confident once this POS is gone they won’t be renting the studio any more. It’s not worth the trouble for 2 seniors.
