Lashana Lynch will be introduced as the new 007 in Bond 25

Whether she's a temporary replacement before Bond retakes the 007 number or it's permanent, I think this sounds really interesting.

Craig's era remains unrealistic wish fulfilment fantasy (there's nothing wrong with it being unrealistic or fantasy, this isn't a criticism) in many ways, but in other ways it is clearly trying to shake things up by showing realer consequences for Bond. He feels remorse, anger and guilt more often, things go badly for him and those he loves, and his mistakes have bigger consequences. I feel like this is another example of this: Bond quit at the end of Spectre. Of course MI5 would replace him with another 007. When you think about it's incredibly silly to believe that they'd sit around twiddling their thumbs pining for Bond to return and keeping his spot open, and yet that's what traditionally would have happened. Bond returning to find out his spot's been filled is a wake-up call to both the audience and, probably, to Bond himself, and that's another interesting reminder that Bond's actions now have meaningful consequences for him. It raises his personal stakes.

I like Phoebe Waller-Bridge's writing a lot, so I'm very intrigued to see where she takes this.
