In the last 5 years 18% of the Hugo + Nebula Best Novel nominees have been Male

Yeah man. Nobody even talks about it. As one of the few ESL, non-Anglos in the biz, it's insane how nobody realises that fluency in English is obviously the biggest privilege a writer can have, followed by class. It seems like such a no-brainer, yet nobody even talks about it.

I'm not even complaining for my sake. I'm agented and debuting soon, my English is more than good enough by now. I don't even blame publishers for not investing in translations, since they're expensive af. But people talk about diversity and yet never buy a single non-Anglo book? Or even acknowledge the fact that, you know, white American women writers are definitely on a VERY privileged spot on a global level? Hell, they don't even notice how American culture dominates the awards. In the last decade at least two books that were nominated or won the Hugos are set in New York! That's one specific city in one specific country. What are the odds?
