Latest interview with Blake Lemoine

First of all, I know I’m gonna get a lot of shit about this, but I did not watch the pod but decided to post after seeing comments about there being no pushback as I am becoming extremely annoyed by the amount of coverage and platforming Blake is receiving. I read Blake’s paper when it first came out and realized it was bullshit pretty much immediately, it is so bad that I am almost certain this whole this whole thing is just a stunt for clout. His argument boils down to the chatbot says it has emotions and sentience therefore it does have them. I remember using cleverbot when I was a teenager and it saying it was sentient, does this mean it is too?

I should of clarified in my original post by what I meant is misinformation- the things he said in reference to neural networks could be absolutely fine and accurate(although I doubt it, considering he says modern NNs like LaMDA have lookup tables in this article lmao), but what is misinformation is the your second part. Yes while there is no strictly scientific definition of sentience as it’s not tangible there most certainly is a agreed upon idea of what sentience is in the western world- the ability to experience and process feelings/emotions which LaMDA very much does not. Him not mentioning his religion on the podcast is honestly worse if that is true also as he has stated multiple times before this podcast that this belief is based on his religion, which is a pretty important thing to leave out.
