Actually had to bribe my mom… she never taught any of her other kids before and she had 7. She’s embarrassed of her accent but she has it neutral… younger Mexicans are actually really impressed with it so never understood why. I told her this and she had a little smirk. Bribed her to teach me with the Spanish bible for children and that’s why she’s only teaching me and no one else. She was embarrassed at first bc she forgot a lot and the word for “bat” (animal), but second page she remembered and she had the biggest grin. I didn’t know but she relearned in her 20’s with a bible with her aunt, same as me now. Was cute.

Decided to inherit her accent because a friend told me I inherited the accent on one of the only Spanish words I still said but was very embarrassed to because Mexicans/white peoples either corrected me or looked at me funny… thought I had a gringo accent until he told me otherwise and it all clicked, lol. (Pastelillos).
