Here's Lauren Southern's Response to Patreon Co-Founder Jack Conte

Before watching the video the OP has posted, I recommend watching the video she is responding to.

The video link above is made by the CEO of Patreon. He explains why they decided to remove Lauren Southern's Patreon page.

I made a comment about this incident before in a different thread, my opinion can be found here if anyone gives a shit.

My opinion after watching the video made by the CEO has changed.

I'm going to critique things I said in my previous post in light of new information.

But in her YouTube video in which she explains why she was banned from Patreon, she said that her "participation" with the refugee boat project only involved her filiming it and reporting on it....She says she isn't a member of (forgot the name of the group), she wasn't going to directly participate in the refugee boat thing, and all she was going to do is film it and report on it. Assuming all of this is correct, in other words she was doing her fucking job and Patreon kicked her off their platform for her doing her job which is ridiculous.

Yes assuming all of this is correct, however the CEO of Patreon in the YouTube link I provided uses video evidence to demonstrate that everything said above is NOT true.

It is NOT true that all Lauren did was report and film what was going on. There is video evidence (look at YouTube link I provided) of Lauren Southern being on a ship and instructing them to block boats. So Lauren was a participant, she wasn't just a reporter who was sympathetic to their cause.

The next question is well who exactly were they blocking? They were blocking search and rescue boats. I assume search and rescue is looking for people in the water to prevent them from drowning. So Patreon's claim that Lauren Southern was participating in actions that could cause "loss of life" is entirely plausible since after all these are search and rescue boats that they (along with Lauren Southern on video, instructing them) are attempting to block and prevent from doing their job.

Assuming Lauren's account of what happened is right, it's a pretty clear cut case of Patreon kicking someone off their platform for ideological reasons.

People can argue and speculate all day whether there were ideological reasons of banning her Patreon page. Do I think some of those speculations may be true, do I think some of the workers at Patreon may have been extra motivated to find things Lauren did wrong so they could ban her page because they don't like her political views? Maybe, sure it's possible. I'm sympathetic to right wingers being silenced by the thought police on the left.

However I also think that is not relevant here, because the CEO in my opinion makes a strong case that by just reviewing empirical facts of the actions Lauren had made in her videos, her actions had violated policies and rules by Patreon.

She says she isn't a member of (forgot the name of the group)

As the CEO points out in the video, it was irrelevant to them what political groups she identifies with, whether she is a member of Defend Europe (....or something.., forgot the name of the group exactly). All they did was review facts, they reviewed her actual actions and behavior and evaluated whether those actions and behaviors violated Patreon rules. I think the CEO makes a compelling case that she did violate their rules.

Lauren and other people have also pointed out that Patreon still allows Antifa groups that explicitly call for violence and intimidation to stay up on their website. So the reason that they gave for kicking off Lauren is bullshit.

That Antifa page has since been banned from Patreon. The specific group was called "It's Going Down" it is an anarchist group that had a Patreon page. It is now banned.

So it seems like Patreon is even handed and will ban groups/people for violating their rules regardless of politics.

In conclusion my overall opinion is that I think banning her was a little harsh (If I were in charge of Patreon I would have sent out a suspension with a warning, not a ban). I don't think she deserved being banned for what she did. However at the same time I don't own Patreon, I'm not an executive there, and I respect Patreon's decision to ban her.

I think the CEO made a good video, he explained clearly why they banned her Patreon page, he provided video evidence to back up his claims about the actions made by Lauren Southern, and his tone was entirely professional.

The CEO also apologized for the lackluster initial response by Patreon and says they should have done a better job explaining in detail why they banned her Patreon Page. Entirely respectful, understandable, and professional.

I've watched Lauren's video the OP posted.

First of all, it's childish. Compare this video to the tone of the video made by the CEO. Also the so called right wing "skeptic" community is down voting the CEO's video, and up voting Lauren's childish video. Thunderf00t was right in his decision to leave the so called "skeptic" community. It's not skeptical at all, it's just full of right wing ideologues.

Lauren's video doesn't address the video footage the CEO used to back up his claims, she keeps repeating she didn't participate (yes she did) and that she isn't a member of Defend Europe (which is irrelevant, as the CEO pointed out).
