Lawyers of Reddit what's the craziest case you've ever had?

I'll be deleting this in a few hours.

Not a lawyer, I'm one side of this catastrophe.

A patent was filed.

Over 4 years later a lawsuit was filed. A very much ex friend is suing for ownership of my patent.

6 months later they finally get around to serving me papers.

3 days later the lawyer for the other side quits (not being paid). Other side's ex-lawyer files suit for payment.

4 months later court informs other side he must have an attorney to represent him (suing me as a corporation).

2 months later he has an attorney, and there is a preliminary discussion.

His attorney quits again, not being paid. Now ex-attorney files suit for payment.

6 months later, another time the court telling him he must have an attorney, a brand new preliminary discussion.

Nothing for 2 months.

His attorney quits, no communication with client. And you guessed it, files suit for payment.

New attorney, new preliminary discussions.

Yay we have a schedule set.

The day before the mandatory settlement conference, he fires his attorney. Umm wtf? Of course he wasn't paying his attorney so there is yet another suit for payment.

He walks out of the mandatory settlement conference.

About 3 months later he has a new attorney.

We cram things in, accelerating the pace because the court is grumpy with him.

We get through discovery, get through depositions. It comes out his attorney hasn't been paid in months.

I've skipped a few attorneys in here, he has had at least 8. We know this because there are 7 suits for payment, and his current attorney.

We get to the mandatory settlement conference again. Yay!!! We reach settlement.

Word of the settlement gets out, over 2 dozen suits for payment are filed for seemingly everything he has ever done.

His attorney can't get in touch with him.

After 4 months the court provides an ultimatum, in 2 months he must justify his actions.

2 months later he shows up with a new lawyer. One he apparently got the night before because this lawyer hasn't had time to do anything.

Other side tells the court that there is something missing from the settlement, that's why he wouldn't sign. There are standard processes to use if this happens, he didn't use them.

My side notifies his old attorney about the change of representation.

His now ex-attorney files yet another shit for payment.

Court rules that he is "not credible" and that his old attorney remains his attorney, he improperly attempted replacement.

My side files for a judgement. Judgement is granted, he is kicked out of court on his ass.

His side files an appeal. I have no idea who his current attorney is.

Should have the final result within a couple months.

The whole thing became a comedy of the absurd long ago.
