Leaked memo: Microsoft is offering 12 weeks of paid leave for parents as schools remain closed for the academic year

Dunno as a friend of mine without kids aptly responded to me when I said this "shit I would rather be at work than at home, in lockdown, with kids for 12 weeks!".

I am currently at home with my wife and our 7yo son on lockdown and it is difficult. Not terrible but not a holiday by any stretch of the imagination. We're having to do our best to teach our son so he doesn't fall behind. The school sends out packs of work every other day. We do two virtual classrooms a week and the teacher does one or two 1:1 video calls for half an hour as well.

If we were able to go out it wouldn't be so bad but being on lockdown it makes that impossible. He can't see his friends to play and there is only so much kid play we can do every day without going insane.

When I say this people roll their eyes and say "how can you not like being with your kid?!" and other comments but obviously I love my kid but having zero time away from them while having to be their best friend then their teacher then their parent is draining. They get bored of you as much as you get bored of them. Then throw in all the extra stuff like housework from living in the same space 24/7 for weeks on end and it sucks. The first week was fine but we are on week 4 now with most likely another 3-4 to come before the lockdown is lifted and even then it looks like schools will remain closed until September. So yeah I agree with my mate, being in work would be preferred!
