Have you learned any of your matriarchal figures' (past or present) cool pastimes? Did you learn from them directly? If not, do you regret not taking an interest sooner?

I haven't and quite honestly, I regret it.

My grandma knew how to do everything, as she was put to work when she was 6 because she was an orphan in the 1920s - amazing cook, also did all sorts of homemade cheeses, sausages, traditional sweets, etc, and sewing, farming, anything - but we grandchildren never were encouraged by our parents to learn because I guess in a way it was a reminder of our very humble origins and we didn't ''need'' it anymore, not in these modern times.

I'd give anything to know how to cook like my grandma. But my biggest regret is that we never recorded the songs she used to sing, which are probably now lost in time, as there aren't many women alive from her time and it was a very rural, secluded area.
