At least five potential buyers have toured Nats; bids expected in weeks

The speed of the deal was only to the deadline. And I put zero stock in what GMs say publicly about personnel matters - all of it is strategic to some degree.

It would have felt like rushing if we hadn’t gotten so much from SD. By all accounts the team set a huge asking price and didn’t budge until it was met.

As far as not waiting for the new owners, my guess is that was Rizzo weighing the combination of the likelihood Soto would extend at any realistic number, along with the fact there was no guarantee the next owners would feel any differently.

We may have just gotten the biggest prospect package in league history. Rizzo knew he wasn’t going to get nearly as much after the playoffs.
