LEAVE MICROSOFT ALONE!!!

The reason I hate Safari is not because it is slower to add features than Chrome, but because it's a buggy piece of shit, and Apple doesn't care.

  • My first run into this was a trivial CSS bug that crashed the browser. It had been open for 2 years before an update was finally put out.

  • But one could also complain about their broken implementation of strict mode which again has been open for 2+ years, and still not fixed.

  • Or their document.querySelector bug which has been fixed for like 6 months on their Git repo, which they refused to put out a patch release for because of (and I quote) "lack of user impact." It was serious enough that jQuery had to put out an emergency patch release working around the problem.

  • ... or consider this serious Object.create bug. Wrecks the application, hard to find since it appears only in JIT optimized code, I know it required tens of hours from multiple people to hunt it down. Open for 5 months, not even fucking acknowledged on their tracker. Time for yet another workaround!

Every application has bugs but at least with Firefox or Chrome, you get the impression that people care. You'll get a quick response acknowledging the problem, and the fix will be in the next release. With Apple you get radio silence and wait years. When Google decided to fork WebKit I died a bit inside, because their fixes would no longer make it into Safari.

One wonders if Apple does this on purpose to sabotage the web and encourage people to write native apps. ...just like IE6...
