Lechuga Bay is Dead (Humor)

Oregon is wide open, you will only have a problem if you are a dick in the water and only then if there is some one else in the water with you.

I live in the epicenter of good Oregon surf. A solid 8 months of large swell, offshore winds and spots that are very consistent.

Last Sunday, every local was in the water at the same spot, all 11 of us. Any one from any where could have paddled out and not had a problem, there is so much surf here. Sets are not 10 minutes apart, more like 4. And there are 8 to as many as 15 waves per set. We are much closer to the source. Lulls would be nice really, paddling here is tough and you will get caught inside no matter how hard you paddle.

We get surfers from inland, we respect them because they drove 100 miles to get here. We did not. Most of us here can surf every day, guys from Eugene cannot. So being a dick to guys who spend so much time and money getting here is stupid and we all know it. We are bigger pricks to each other than tourist types.

Not saying you won't get vibed if you snake, you will. Most likely, your day will be over and then some. But except for Seaside, Oregon is wide open and quite friendly, simply too much surf to bother being a 'local'. There are some ex Cali's in P.O. that try to hold something down but I think they drowned or quit, most surfers from down south who move here quit surfing after a bit.

Oregon isn't flip flops and shorts, its Romeo's and Carhartt's. Its half mile hikes in the rain, not paid parking steps from the sand.

And a hot tip: You want secret spots? Simply look for cars and trucks with racks, parked along the road. If there are more than five, skip it. If there is only one, have a look, he probably wants some one to surf with.
