Left my job after 7 years and wanted some ideas on what to ask at my interviews. WTF is this nonsense it's the main reasons why people work...

I recall an interview that was going particularly well (or so I thought) up until when I asked about the compensation. I made it clear that I needed to know the range this particular company was offering before I spent more time in their interview process. Suffice it to say, I didn't get the position - though another colleague of mine did. The interaction left me with a bad taste in my mouth as I thought it absolutely reasonable to discuss the compensation expectations before we moved any further with the interview process. To be fair, the employee I was speaking with wasn't HR, but it was my expectation they would still be able to field that question in some capacity. That they were apparently unprepared or unwilling to discuss when that information would be shared was a big red flag.

Long story short, the colleague who got the position wasn't at this place for very long. Months, at most. The impression I ultimately got was that the place wasn't all it was cracked up to be. So in the end, my question directly headed off a likely problematic relationship with this group that I didn't have time or money to afford finding out after possibly passing on other opportunities. So ultimately, I'm glad I asked, and I'm glad they passed on me.
