Legal mmj in a rental house

I'll start this by saying I have no experience with legal mmj. That being said, imho, I think being as low key as possible is important... even when dealing with the legal stuff.

I don't know if this would be possible for you, but one option would be to not say anything, and then prepare for the annual inspection by removing your equipment and have your medicine processed before that specific day. I know shutting down and setting up is a huge pain in the ass... and for all I know essentially impossible for you... but keep in mind it would be once a year, and only for a short time. Might be worth it to avoid greater hardship. Landlords need to give you 24h notice to come view the property, not all of them do, but legally they're supposed to.

If they do find out, presenting proof of your legal status would prevent them from evicting you immediately and for that reason... but if the area is as anti pot as you say, I would imagine they would find a reason to get rid of you anyway.

In your situation, I probably wouldn't want to tell the landlord because I feel it's personal. I don't want to tell my landlord about my sex life or my personal health... both of which I usually take care of in the home I rent from him. I don't feel that gives him the right to know about those things, because they're private. Privacy is one of the things a tenant is entitled to. I don't feel it's lying to not mention private things. It's not like you're cooking meth; the plants you have will not affect the long term value of the property.

You're technically allowed to grow pot, so you're protected. I don't feel that telling them ahead of time would benefit you in any way. If you lived in a less rural or more opened minded area... I'd say keep looking... but as someone from a small redneck/jesus freak town myself, I know understand how finding a place to live that accepts your medicine too could be a futile exercise.
