Mario is the best selling video game franchise of all time. The Mario Franchise has sold over 600 million games. Anyone could tell you who Mario is - literally, ask anyone.
Animal Crossing has sold just over 50 million games. Nearly half of those are NH. Do you think the cultural popularity will last? Its big now - but do moms know what animal crossing is? Who Tom Nook is? Can you grab a random person off the street and ask them if they've ever mortgaged a house from a Racoon/Tanuki?
I love Animal Crossing. I've put hundreds and hundreds of hours into the series. But it has been a niche franchise for almost 2 decades. Quarantine gave NH a huge, huge boost.
But is it lasting? Is it lego set worthy? Whos to say?
