As a lesbian female, I've decided not to act on it only because God said so and because of Hell. Is this the wrong reason?

Several things, but really the first point (Galatians 3:19) answers this the best:

1) This was prior to Christ's sacrifice-the atonement that saves for those who put their faith in Christ.

"Why then the law? It was added because of transgressions, until the offspring should come to whom the promise had been made, and it was put in place through angels by an intermediary." Galatians 3:19

Galatians 3:24 clarifies what Paul meant, but I will include verses 20-24 for context.

"Now an intermediary implies more than one, but God is one. Is the law then contrary to the promises of God? Certainly not! For if a law had been given that could give life, then righteousness would indeed be by the law. But the Scripture imprisoned everything under sin, so that the promise by faith in Jesus Christ might be given to those who believe. Now before faith came, we were held captive under the law, imprisoned until the coming faith would be revealed. So then, the law was our guardian until Christ came, in order that we might be justified by faith." Galatians 3:20‭-‬24

2) Part of the purpose of the commandments (the Law), as Paul made clear, was to be a mirror that shows us when we commit a sin.

"For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin." Romans 3:20

3) It is made clear by Paul that we are no longer under the Law. As such, we are under grace-this grace is believing in Christ.

"For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace." Romans 6:14

Paul speaks in lengths about the law actually. That does not mean that we just drop it of course-it reveals to us where we err (for the parts that would apply to all and not just specific folks)- but it does mean that we are no longer under it.
