Let’s keep the schools closed — and get a head start on summer

My kids are not ok. My partner is a teacher, and the kids in his class are not ok. The strain of online learning, not being able to go anywhere except for walks is really harming their mental health. A week or two at school, for closure and the stability of it are worth more to me then anything. I know people want to drink on patios, but the damage being done to kids this time around can’t be understated.

I took my kids for a hike. My son refused to get out of the car because he was afraid he would give people covid (he hasn’t seen anyone but those he lives with since early April). My daughter cries every night.

The first two lockdowns were one thing, but this one is hitting very different. The damage from this won’t just go away. I am begging for a week or two of school, just to give them a tiny bit of normalcy and closure. It’s not about “getting them out of my hair”, it’s about trying to repair a tiny bit of the damage Done to them that we live with all day.
