Going behind the Valaritas door in the archives made Elodin crack. When Kvothe first asks Elodin what's behind it Elodins response is something along the lines of "thinking about that nearly killed me." I think he was being literal. Later when Kvothe breaks into Hemmes room Elodin says "doors are locked for a reason. People who don't have keys are supposed to stay out for a reason." Probably just in reference to Hemme's door but it might have had a double meaning.
