The level of difficulty

As a profesionel working with maya, i will tell you every thing depends on what you want to do.

But even than you might find a job where they want you to know 3dsmax or any thing, if you are generaly competant and can find answer on internet, all is good. The most important thing is understanding principles of your chosen specialisation, not the maya specific. When you find a job there is a lot of in company tools and stuf.

If you want to be a modeler, do good model with nice topo.

If you want to be a Fx artist learn many software.

If you want to be a riggeur understand how to create rig, the structure and a bit of the math.

If you want to be an animator, animate.

...

Find some one who does that specialisation and ask.
