you missed my point. ER waiting rooms are full of poor people who are there for either completely non-urgent reasons (i.e. little billy stubbed his toe and medicaid mom doesn't want to have to actually schedule a visit with her PCP because she can just show up at the ER whenever is most convenient for her instead and she doesn't have to worry about ER bills or even a copay) or malingering. this phenomenon seems to be especially bad at night IME.

unlike the uninsured/medicaid patients, i actively avoid going to the ER unless something is seriously wrong (i.e. an emergency) and even then i'm sometimes hesitant because i know i will get a disproportionately large bill for it.
