Lex just can’t catch a break

I'll bite.

If you interpret 'basic' as 'lame' or 'uninteresting', then yeah, whoever called these books basic is basic.

If you interpret 'basic' as in 'basic foundational stuff', then yeah, this reading list reads like Lex has just discovered that books exist and has to start with 'the basics'. All of these books are so famous that you'll find them in pretty much any high school book club reading list (yes, even Brothers K). I'd read 90% of these before graduating, and I'm not even smart. If this is the extent of Lex's readings, then it doesn't really shine brightly on him.

But Lex has since clarified that he's re-read these multiple times, so this is more of a good-hearted attempt to encourage others to read 'the basics'. That's great, but I don't really blame the prickly twitter-verse for jumping to the conclusion that Lex hadn't read any of these before, and regardless of what any of you knuckle-draggers think, it's a red flag if you're styled as an intellectual, are 40, and haven't read the majority of these.
