Liberal MP Seamus O'Regan: "Immigrants are better at creating new businesses and new jobs than Canadian-born people."

He's not wrong, but it's not a fact that makes people happy to hear. You're just swapping one end of Canada's immigration frustrations to the other end.

We make it prohibitively hard for people to start their own business and we cater to the already wealthy, who mostly work to make themselves wealthier while everyone else stagnates.

So our solution to creating jobs is to invite even more wealthy people instead of investing in Canadian growth. Lots of foreign investment in property helps drive up the costs of homes and contributes to an increase in cost of living. People have to live further and further from their jobs, giving them less time to devote to side jobs or ideas.

It's all a big catch-22 that's only going to get worse. When automation takes over in the not so distant future, suddenly a lot of these people relying on immigrant job creators will find themselves without jobs. How can Canadians ever be expected to rise about their station when the system seems so keen on trying to attract larger amounts of foreign money.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against immigration as it's important for any country to have. I'm very proud our country is so accepting and that people choose to come here of all places.

Immigration is just always going to be a touchy subject for a huge variety of reasons. It does a lot of good but it's hard not to feel like it also works against us.
