Libertarians are getting their wish - More and more states are passing laws legalizing segregation and discrimination. So much for "socially liberal" libertarians.

"The LGBT movement is the main thing, the primary thing that's going to be challenging religious liberties and the freedom to live out religious convictions," said State Senator Joseph Silk, an Oklahoma Republican and the sponsor of a bill in that state. "And I say that sensitively, because I have homosexual friends."

"It's okay that I'm trying to pass a law to legally discriminate against gays. I have a gay person living two blocks away gay friends."

"They don't have a right to be served in every single store," said Mr. Silk, the Oklahoma state senator, referring to gay people. "People need to have the ability to refuse service if it violates their religious convictions."

"Look, gays don't deserve the right to be able to go to all stores and restaurants like the rest of us. I believe my 2000 year old religious scripture so much - to the point where I think that a dude is subhuman for loving another dude."

"When government wants to infringe on your conscience, then you need to be protected, and in America, we want to protect everybody," said State Representative Scott Craig, Republican of South Dakota, who is a pastor and sponsor of a failed proposal there."

"In America, we want to protect and take care of everybody. Doing this means that people can segregate gays for being gay. Oh, yeah, gay people aren't included in 'everybody'."

In Michigan, supporters have said a bill there would serve as a necessary legal counterweight to a proposal seeking expanded anti-discrimination policies for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transsexual people.

"Yes, this law allowing discrimination is needed because anti-discrimination laws have been passed. Gay people need to have balanced rights, not equal ones."

Can I use these arguments to try to bring back segregation? The Civil Rights Act goes against my religious convictions!

I wouldn't doubt these people would try that if they could get away with it.
