Why is life like this?

There's a sub for that.

There are as many ways to respond to the nihilistic quality of reality as there are people. Your response to it isn't nihilism. It's a response - a response to something you don't like. Like any other response to any other bit of reality you don't like.

I think the only difference between the two is one's response to the realization that their dislike of something is irrelevant - or, at least, it's irrelevant to the bits of reality that aren't their mother - but one doesn't even have to know the word, "nihilism", to get their panties in a bunch about that. What do you think all of the fuss is about? War and hate and nosiness and criticism and on and on and on.

You were important to your mother.

Reality isn't your mother.

Or, if you prefer, reality is everything's mother, including all of the stuff you don't like.
