'Life on planet at stake', France warns as climate ministers meet

The problem I have with people who promote the idea of climate change is that their sole action-agenda seems to be attacking the skeptics. I've even seen claims to censor and jail skeptics. The result is heated arguments and veiled threats -- and no significant action to fix the environment.

I'm in favor of a massive carbon tax because I see what oil addiction has done to the world. The skies over cities are lethal. Half the irrigation water in California is run-off from fracking operations. Then there are the never-ending wars for 'our' oil that somehow ended up under their land.

So-called fossil fuels are a clear demonstration of market failure in that the external costs are huge and undeniable. We can fix that by slapping on a big tax for the consumption of oil and coal.

As far as the climate change debate, haven't we seen this show before? Obama promises to get us out of foreign wars, and he keeps us in them and creates even more of them. He promised to prosecute Wall Street corruption, and no one is jailed. And so we're going to do something about the environment -- namely ignore the ongoing pollution crises caused by fossil fuel use. 'Climate change' is more political theater, to talk big about environmental policy as if but meanwhile keep on doing the same-old same-old on behalf of corporate profits.

I grow weary of the song and dance. No, ministers, you don't get to leave the room until we see at least a dollar a gallon increase on the tax for gasoline at the pump. Before the cancer(s) kill us. Before the fossil-fuel war unfolding in Syria leads to WW3. And yeah, maybe we'll drown in forty years. But come on -- we're dying right now from this crap. Impose a massive carbon tax -- or shut up!
