In light of all the negativity in the world right now, retail and customer service workers of Reddit: what is the best or most wholesome encounter you have had with a customer?

Oooo! A question I can answer! I’ve got 2 stories from when I worked at Best Buy.

One:

Worked at GeekSquad a few years back. Had a regular that would come in almost every month. The kindest old lady I’ve ever met. Maybe late seventies. Wicked smart, too! She only wanted to work with me because I’d spend extra time to make sure the computer issue she had was fixed/answer any questions she had.

Back then, Best Buy decided employees would start working at 4pm on Thanksgiving day for Black Friday. I was told if I did not show up I would be fired. It was on the news that other retailers decided to do the same thing.

Amongst the crowds of people on Thanksgiving day, I see a face I recognize. It’s her! She walked right up to me and said, “I heard that you all had to work on Thanksgiving Day... so I made you this,” and handed me a bag of home-cooked turkey, mashed potatoes, green beans, and gravy. She turned around and exited the building.

I saw her a few weeks later and told her how thankful I was! She looked a bit exhausted for some reason and asked her if she was okay. Unfortunately she was recently diagnostic with breast cancer. I never saw her again after that day.

Tl;dr - customer at Best Buy brought me a home cooked meal when I was forced to work thanksgiving day

Two:

I was pretty poor while working at Best Buy. I was barely getting by with each paycheck.

My shoes were literally falling apart. You could even see my toes! They were the only pair I had, and I didn’t have the most to by

A gruff looking older gentleman comes in to GeekSquad. He had a service dog by his side and carried his laptop in an industrial looking metal case. He started working with another GeekSquad agent. Something went wrong and I heard some yelling, so I step out and start talking to the gruff guy to see what’s wrong.

He explains his issue in a very stoic and straightforward way, so I gave an answer in a very stoic and straightforward way. After some conversation, find out he is a retired BMW engineer. Also find out his laptop needs a new Hard Drive.

As I’m walking with him to the hard drives in the back of the store, he stops me and says, “you have huge feet! What size are those?” I laughed and just said 9.

Fast forward 2 days and my manager pulls aside and says someone left something for me at the Asset Protection desk near the entrance and then left.

It was a new pair of size 9 leather shoes. I never saw him again.

Tl;dr - GeekSquad client sees that I have worn shoes because I couldn’t buy new ones. Brings me a gift of new leather shoes a few days later
