Lincoln Project ad features former Navy SEAL: 'Trump is not conservative'

My conservative is different.

For starters I take trade policy from Murray Rothbard not Peter Navarro.

I think a conservative would absolutely support LGBTQ+ rights at all levels, as I do, because intrusion on those rights is overreach.

I think a conservative would be appalled and horrified at what is currently happening in Portland, as I am, because the government clearly should not have that much power to just kidnap people off the street for expressing first amendment rights.

I think a conservative would strongly support legalization of marijuana, as I do, for these same reasons, it's not the government's job to prevent me from making harmful decisions. It's no different from alcohol Prohibition which was fucking stupid too.

I think a conservative would be horrified at the fact that the budget deficit was a trillion dollars before the pandemic, as I am, when it was only 550 billion when Obama left office.

I think a conservative would be horrified at things like civil asset forfeiture, I think a conservative would support police accountability reform and stand with Black Lives Matter because police officers are the government personified, I think a conservative would take COVID-19 seriously because our protection is literally the main job of the government in the first place, no matter who you vote for. Same thing with the climate crisis, it's not conservative to deny science it's just fucking dumb.

I don't think "liberals" would disagree with any of the policy positions I've advocated above, nor do I think it makes me a liberal for advocating them. Trump is a big government authoritarian, and that is the opposite of me a small government conservative. But small government doesn't mean no government. It serves a purpose and a damn good one at that, but you have to keep it under control.

But unlike Democrats I'm not willing to accept illegal immigrants unless they pay back taxes with interest and penalties, just like Wesley Snipes had to do. I do think if I took the money I put in my 401k and spent it on drugs instead that it should be my problem alone 40 years from now if I'm not prepared. I support the idea behind bail reform because the previous system was designed to fuck poor people, but when you can get arrested for robbery 5 times in a week something is broken there too. I do think rich people should pay their fair share, but I'm not interested in punishing them for being rich.

I have many policy disagreements with Democrats, none of them lead me anywhere other than Biden 2020.
