Nah, he is a narcissist and revels in the attention he gets and the power he feels he has. Also, being an anti-gay homosexual is pretty standard fare on the republican side of the house... Their position is a mix of the conservative core ideation that was described by F. Wilhoit with;

and a positioning of one self in a way by which they think they can abuse others for sake of personal pleasure and gain. People like Lindsey are predators and being anti-gay is just one way in which they put themselves in to the "protected ingroup" among other biggots, while using said platform to make their pray more vulnerable.
