Linear coil vs progress air

Keep in mind I have not ridden coil but I have looked into it a ton as I am keen to try.

It can depend on the suspension design of your specific bike (for rear shocks).

Generally more linear = more plush feeling, more traction at the expense of pop/playfulness and more ‘built-in’ bottom out resistance. Coil is pretty much always going to be heavier as well.

Depending on the design of your bike a linear rear shock may not be a good fit. I’m trying a coil fork on my hardtail soon just to try it out and because I wanted to upgrade the fork anyway.

My next bike I’m going to build from frame up (or buy complete and almost fully rebuild) and am thinking of trying full coil.
