List of Pretenders to European Thrones

Before edgy republicans start commenting things like "I can't understand why anyone would want a monarchy in 21st century" and "Muh egalitarian utopia is much better off like this than with a stupid monarch" I'd like to make some points why I think parliamentary monarchy is better then a parliamentary republic.

  • It saves taxpayer money from useless elections for a position which is fit for pretty much anyone who has public speaking skills and some charisma. Upholding a royal family, even one that lives in big fancy castles, is much cheaper then elections. You could probably uphold it for a decade maybe more with the money that's wasted every 4/5 years.

  • Less corruption possibility. If you're already rich for your whole lifetime you don't have to focus on your own gains, but work for the betterment of your country.

  • Non-political, non-partisan head of state. A President usually belongs to a party and even though he/she symbolically leaves, they usually still propogate and follow their parties ideology. The President is supposed to represent all the people of a country, but it's very often just a bit above 50% who support him/her.

  • It's better to have a head of state that doesn't resort to manipulation and cheap populism to get to that position.

  • A monarchy helps tourism quite a bit. people would rather visit a castle that's actually being used by a real monarch. The extra profit from tourism could potentionally be so much that the Monarchy coul be selfreliant.

Here's a great video from CGP grey that points out the benefits of the British Monarchy. Although some points there don't really apply to all monarchies, but it still worth checking out.
