Lithium battery costs have fallen by 98% in three decades - In a few years electric vehicles may cost the same as their combustion-engine counterparts

This is not cause for optimism, CMV

The timeline to reach cost-competitiveness is not the same as the timeline to reach market-share parity which is not the same as the timeline to reach fleet composition parity.

Current projections have BEV's reaching market share parity a little before 2040 - that's with market intervention from supportive government.s It will take longer for older ICE vehicles to be completely retired, changing out the fleet.

In the meantime, BEV's will be charged using energy grids which are not diversifying into renewable sources of energy nearly fast enough. I have not seen a single global energy projection, optimistic or otherwise, which doesn't have carbon emissions continuing to grow with energy consumption into 2050. Meanwhile, we needed to decrease carbon emissions fucking yesterday.

Bar a miracle, we have boned this planet beyond repair, and the most likely outcome is those with money and power walling themselves off from the negative ramifications while those without power struggle amongst ourselves over what little we're left with.
