"We live in a America where one party wants people to choose what they want to read, and the other wants society to teach "Both sides" of slavery and the Holocaust." [/r/books, +59]

1) Many leftists have sought to ban "offensive" books.

2) No one is advocating teaching "both sides" regarding slavery or the Holocaust.

3) I find it hilarious that they are offended at the idea of teaching actual history -- that is, actually learning what every side thought. I am no expert, but my passion is history and I try to keep up with academic journals around the Holocaust, Nazism, etc. By learning the Nazi's "side", I discovered horror beyond the cartoon bad guys that pop-history teach. I found real, nuanced humans who were driven by a vile ideology that led to horrific atrocities. History does not only teach what slaves felt, nor should it, but about the vast network of humans connected to it. The slaves' "side" is not history.

To be fair, these people think history needs to be biased, hence if we teach how and why southerners justified their actions, they think it must inherently come with the historical text supporting it.
